Strategically Located. Wildly Productive. Endlessly Varied.
Mission Lodge is ideally situated on the shores of Lake Aleknagik, in the heart of the Bristol Bay region — one of the most renowned freshwater fisheries on Earth. With a floatplane dock just steps from our front door and fly-out access in every direction, our location offers unparalleled proximity to some of the most remote, productive, and visually stunning waters in Alaska.
Here, variety isn’t just a feature — it’s the foundation of your experience.
Mission Lodge is nestled at the edge of Wood-Tikchik State Park, the largest state park in the U.S., with over 1.6 million acres of protected wilderness. From our dock on Lake Aleknagik, we launch daily fly-out adventures that reach dozens of remote rivers, creeks, and lakes across the region.
This central location gives us the flexibility to adapt to weather, fishing conditions, and guest preferences, ensuring the best possible experience each day.
Waters We Fish
Depending on the time or season and species available, our guests may fish a wide variety of locations — from tumbling clearwater streams and broad, braided rivers to stillwater lakes, spring creeks, tundra channels, and more.
Here are just a few of the iconic systems we frequently explore:
- Nushagak River – Legendary for its King salmon runs and incredible Silver salmon action later in the season.
- Agulawok & Agulukpak Rivers – Known for prolific rainbow trout, Arctic grayling, and sockeye fishing in clear, wadeable waters.
- Togiak River – A scenic, remote system offering excellent opportunities for salmon, rainbow trout, char, and grayling.
- Wood River Lakes System – A chain of massive glacial lakes and interconnected rivers loaded with seasonal fish migrations and stunning wildlife.
- Katmai National Park – Known for many of the regions most iconic rivers and attractions, such as Brooks Falls, the Kulik River, and more, we are also within flying distance of Katmai.
In addition to the well known waters above, we also frequent dozens of lesser known locations that, well, we’re not just going to post here on the internet (wink, wink).
Many of the waters we fish are fly-fishing friendly, and some are fly-only. Whether you’re new to casting or a seasoned angler with years of experience, we tailor each trip to your skill level and goals.
Five Salmon Species. Endless Opportunities.
From late June through September, Bristol Bay comes alive with the largest wild salmon run on Earth. Mission Lodge offers access to all five Pacific salmon species:
- King (Chinook) Salmon
- Sockeye (Red) Salmon
- Chum (Dog) Salmon
- Pink (Humpy) Salmon (even-numbered years)
- Silver (Coho) Salmon
Add in strong resident populations of rainbow trout, Arctic char, Dolly Varden, Arctic grayling, lake trout, and northern pike, and every day brings new water, new challenges, and new chances to land the fish of a lifetime.
Floatplane Access: The Ultimate Freedom
What truly sets Mission Lodge apart is our ability to go where others can’t. Each day, our guests board floatplanes piloted by experienced bush pilots and guided by some of the most knowledgeable fly-out guides in the state.
This mobility allows us to chase the best fishing conditions daily — whether that means exploring a small stream packed with feeding trout or landing on a secluded lake for an unforgettable silver salmon bite.
At Mission Lodge, we don’t just take you to the best water — we live smack dab in the middle of it. Don’t take our word for it however. Come join us and see for yourself.
