Mission Lodge ZOOM Series

Welcome to the Mission Lodge Zoom Series. We’re new to this, but I imagine all of you are experiencing new things too in this unprecedented time. Our culture at Mission Lodge has always been one of family and fun, staying connected and sharing. Our hope is through this series, we can bring everyone together, learn and have some laughs together. Each week we will feature something new —gear, updates on the Pebble Mine situation, cooking, fly tying, wine tasting and, as always, Margarita Monday! Our outreach will evolve over time, but we are privileged to have an amazing team at Mission and the support of our peers in difficult times. So please join us, because I look forward to seeing your faces on Zoom for any or all of our sessions. Please RSVP to Tiarna as soon as possible.

We kicked off the 2020 Zoom series with a virtual staff meeting back on April 6, 2020 and it was such a blast that we decided to bring it to our family of guests during this ‘wack-a-do times’ as Ms. Devon from the lodge would say.

In Memory of Jim Konkel

We were recently saddened to hear of the passing of our good friend Jim Konkel, a part of the Mission Lodge Family for over 30 years.

Jim, may you find plenty of ducks, big fish, and tight lines in your next chapter. Thank you for so many years and so many memories.

Jim’s Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 4th, 2022 at the The Portland Country Club at 11 Foreside Road in Falmouth, Maine. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, Ducks Unlimited, and/or a charity of your choice.

If you love fly fishing, Alaska, or just wild places in general, odds are you are well aware of the infamous Pebble Mine project believed by many to pose a threat to one of the last strongholds of wild Pacific salmon, Bristol Bay.

Long-time Mission Lodge family member, and fearless leader of Bristol Bay Native Corporation, Jason Metrokin, recently put together a fantastic op-ed for the New York Times highlighting what is currently being done on the front lines in the fight against Pebble, and what needs to be done in the future to ensure that our beloved Bristol Bay is protected for years to come.

Week 1: June 17 – 24, 2022

Mission Lodge is all about family; it showed more than ever this last week. This year, we kicked off the season with some great king fishing on the Nushagak and Togiak Rivers. The BBNC Education Foundation’s annual Neqa king salmon derby was held on the ‘Nush, and Mission was in the lead for the top lodge for a while, only to be knocked out of the first place spot by just a few ounces! It was great to see familiar faces of returning clients, and we were honored to have a family of three generations on the river together over father’s day weekend.  

Also worth noting, the Sockeye are starting to pour in with good numbers on the ‘Nush and Wood rivers. With some rain in the forecast, salmon fishing should only get better.   See you soon!

2022, Here We Go!

We have been busy up here getting ready for the season. There are some fires in the area so we’ve had some smoke here and there. King camp is set up, boat motors have been flown around to various remote locations, and the fishing gear has been getting tuned up. We are looking forward to seeing you all and to do what we do best… FISH!
